這是一本英文文法書，有些人認為母語是英文的人不必學英文文法，自然會寫英文。這本「英文寫」的英文文法書告訴我們，對一些英文為母語的人，要寫一篇清楚明白又文法正確的文章是有困難的，這本書是給美國學生看的，就如作者在序文說的﹕

       This book is designed to help all students master the basics of English grammar that
they need to succeed in their studies. Best of all, when students understand the underpinnings
of our language, learning will be fun—as it should be.

這本書不是為考試而寫，講述文法簡單明白，主要是幫忙讀者寫好文章。雖然是以英文著作，只要讀懂上面三行英文，了解本書應沒問題。
